Before You Begin

  • Familiarize yourself with the proposal guidelines (found here).

  • Ensure you meet the following eligibility criteria (e.g., both applicants hold a PhD and will be employed by an ACCESS member university at the time of the Forum, etc.).

  • Submit this application by 31 May 2026 @ 23:59 (local Chilean time).

Before you begin this application, please be aware that upon approval of a Research Theme, you and your co-applicant must agree to the following responsibilities:

  1. Organize and host the sessions (panels, brainstorming, posters, etc.) before and during the Forum.

  2. Engage in the selection of your workshop's participants (Oct–Nov 2026).

  3. Attend the 2027 Forum workshop startup meeting in January 2027.

  4. Submit a detailed workshop program by April 2027.

  5. Present a 3-minute outcome summary on the final day of the Forum.

  6. Report on the results from your workshop (workshop Research Brief).

  7. Sustain the working group's progress following the event.

Describe the format of your workshop. Consider the following:

  • How will you structure the 4-days?
  • How do you envision the contribution of the participants in your workshop?
  • In what ways does this format facilitate active participation, particularly for PhD candidates and early career researchers?

Please present a recruitment strategy (max. 250 words) that explains how you will reach, attract, and recruit participants from each of these four areas: diverse member universities, gender, interdisciplinary fields, and career category (senior researchers, PhDs, and early career researchers). For each group, please explain the specific outreach channels you will use and the measures taken to remove barriers to their participation.

  • What specific outreach channels and recruitment tactics will you use to ensure a gender-balanced pool of applicants from the start?
  • How will you identify and attract researchers from a diverse range of institutions (e.g., smaller, regional, or international) beyond your own immediate network?
  • How will you recruit established senior researchers to ensure they are committed to the collaborative and inclusive nature of this specific mix?
  • How will you reach researchers outside of your specific research areas?
  • What targeted strategies will you use to reach PhD students and ECRs, and what incentives will you offer to attract their participation?
Assessment Criteria

The quality of the Research Theme proposals will be assessed by the ACCESS Steering Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Engaging: The Research Theme format has high potential to attract attendees from the institutions involved and its contents can be broadly disseminated and understood.
  • Relevant: The Research Theme raises and discusses issues important to the specific SDG using experience and knowledge from both the Chilean and the Swedish context. 
  • Clear: The intended outcomes of the Research Theme are easily understood.
  • Development Potential: The Research Theme should demonstrate the potential to develop collaborations and new connections/activities both during and beyond the Forum.
  • Interdisciplinarity: The proposal encourages researchers from different academic disciplines to participate in the session.
